our approach to designing websites

Our approach to the design of a website is centered on your business process, not ours. We make a study of your existing business model and build a site that will complement and extend your 'sphere of influence'.

Many businesses require only a simple 'web presence', a kind of electronic business card that makes their off-line business easier to find. More and more people use the 'net to find goods and services and one runs the risk of losing out on potential business if one does not have an effective site that has been carefully designed with search engine optimization in mind.

Other businesses can benefit from a far more comprehensive site. We specialize in working out 'how far you should go', so that you do not waste money on functions you don't need, but at the same time we make sure you do not lose out on the enormous potential on the Internet. All sites are designed with future development and expansion in mind in the recognition that not only are more people using the net, but that the functionality they expect from it is also on the increase.

Our fundamental approach to the development process is as follows:
  1. Consultation: We meet with you (if geographically possible), study your business model, discuss your needs, table some ideas and if necessary, explain some of the terminology, technology and functioning of a web site and the Internet in general.
  2. Brainstorm: After the meeting, we like to spend a day or two thinking about the project and may present further ideas for consideration.
  3. Quote: Once we have a 'firm grip' on the nature and extent of the project, we submit a detailed formal quotation for your approval. This will include suggestions and options for hosting the site and may require several revisions if the site is complex. If we are assisting in obtaining outside funding, this quotation would form the basis of your application for funds.
  4. Look and Feel: Once the quotation has been approved, we start work on a 'look and feel' for the site. This will be based on your existing corporate image (if any). We may suggest improvements and changes to your 'real' world image, if appropriate. We will build one or more temporary pages on a development site, to give you an idea of exactly how your site will look.
  5. Building the content: Once you are happy with the basic design we will develop and edit the content and final graphics.
  6. Building the site: Once the copy and graphics have been approved by you, we make whatever revisions are required and build the pages (and database, if applicable) that will form the site proper.
  7. Testing: Once complete, the site is tested using a variety of browsers, to make sure it looks and works properly and that all links are functioning and all pages loading perfectly and quickly. Any errors are corrected.
  8. Keywords and meta tags: At this stage appropriate keywords and metatags are added to each page to optimize search engine performance.
  9. Upload: The site is now loaded onto the server where it will be visible to everyone on the Internet. This stage requires further testing to make certain that the site performs as expected.
  10. Promotion: The site is submitted to appropriate search engines and directories. This is done manually as many directories penalize automated submissions. This process is as complex and time consuming as budget allows. Due to the nature of the algorithms used for site indexing, results cannot be guaranteed - but we think we are pretty good at this part. The total time spent promoting this site was under 10 hours (€150-00 at the discounted rate) and we currently rank first, second and forth on our chosen search strings on the largest search engine in the world...
  11. Maintenance and updates: Depending on the nature of the site, it may need regular updates and changes. We can do this for you or teach you to do it, depending on your requirements.
Please feel free to contact us for your free consultation or with any queries you may have. Even if you decide to use another developer, it may make sense to consider using us as independent consultants to monitor the project.
